Maitland & Poate is a family-run business. Driven by a passion for stunning tiles and interiors, they travelled throughout Andalucia in Southern Spain, determined to find the highest quality handmade tiles, reclaimed from properties throughout Spain. The batches can vary slightly – this is what gives them their special character and charm. They are suitable for use on floors but can also be used as splash-backs in bathrooms and kitchens, behind ovens or worktops, as feature walls in bathrooms.
Maitland & Poate also supplies new encaustic cement tiles in stunning designs, handmade using the original techniques from Valencia and Cordoba. These tiles, like their antique counterparts, have been handmade, at their sister company in Spain. When ordering new tiles, you can choose slightly thinner, lighter tiles for wall areas, or thicker tiles for floors. They are made individually, like the old original tiles, using only cement, pigments and marble dust.
Cement tiles can be used in any environment. Each tile measures 20cm x 20cm. Heavy traffic areas (such as floors), wet areas (such as bathrooms), hot areas (such as behind cookers) or outdoor areas (such as patios) – but please check with Maitland & Poate on most appropriate sealants and methods for the particular area. Their specialist team can advise on the preparation, laying and finishing of the tiles. They offer an onsite visit to assess the requirements of your job and will see the installation process through to a perfectly laid encaustic tile.
Their website also includes a useful guide to using cement tiles.
