A fantastical gingerbread recreation of Waddesdon Manor, made entirely in biscuit, icing and fondant paste, has just gone on display at Waddesdon. It’s the creation of Biscuiteers, the award-winning retailer of hand-made hand-iced biscuits, who have captured in intricate detail the fairy-tale character of the Manor – from the floral centrepieces on the sumptuous dining room table to the miniature paintings of 18th-century Venice on the panelled walls of the east gallery.
The gingerbread model took over 500 hours, 240 eggs and 216kg of icing, and is over two meters in size. It recreates the rich details of some of Waddesdon’s most beautiful rooms, including its paintings, furniture and ceramics, each modelled and hand-iced in dazzling meticulous detail.
Waddesdon Manor is a French Renaissance-style chateau in Buckinghamshire. It was built by baron Ferdinand de Rothschild from 1874 to house his extraordinary collections and entertain the fashionable world. It contains the finest English portraits and French decorative arts, all set in a magnificent Victorian garden.
The Biscuiteers Waddesdon gingerbread model is on display as part of the 2016 Christmas programme of festivities in the Coach House gallery at the Stables at Waddesdon Manor until February 2017. For more information and to book, visit www.waddesdon.org.uk or call 01296 820414.
