Since 1962 GEC Anderson have been designing and manufacturing made to measure sinks, worktops, cabinets, shelving and modular furniture in stainless steel for both domestic and commercial applications. They are able to seamlessly integrate sinks, bowls, basins and electrical points into worktops and they offer a range of edge details, splashbacks and upstands.
A Hertfordshire kitchen, by Artichoke, features a stainless steel worktop with flush-fitting hob and integrated single bowl sink produced in one piece, without joins.
This stainless steel worktop has rounded corners and includes integrated sinks as well as special socket-points for electrical devices and small appliances. It also features two bin-chutes for easy and convenient disposal of waste. The kitchen, created by Taylor Made By Stanton, is a great example of the complete versatility of stainless steel.
Minimalist kitchen designed by architect Barnaby Gunning features ultra-thin (15mm) stainless steel worktops.
A kitchen by Turner and Foye features a 60mm, ‘rivet’ edged stainless steel worktop and fully integrated sink combined with wood, stone and glass to provide an eclectic look.
Outdoor kitchen with stainless steel worktops and special base cabinets, including a lowered portion for the barbecue, were specified by Jonathan Freegard Architects for a modern extension to a detached house in Highgate, North London.
‘Officially’, Martin Tye of GEC Anderson says, ‘the length of worktops can be 5m but 7.5m was a record. There aren’t many materials that can be made as worktops in one piece up to this size; neither are there many which can withstand hot pans and decades of sustained, heavy use. It is the only material which can have integrated bowls and seamless upstands.’
Stainless steel worktops are hygienic, durable and easily maintained with an e-cloth and cream cleanser. Although susceptible to scratches, these become part of the character of the surface over time.
