Trends

‘This winter season, silk-velvets and luxurious embroidered fabrics with a baroque feeling are making a comeback in interiors. Colours include natural rich tones with gold, copper and greens, and finishes such as blonde walnut, brass inlays and parchment will feature. Sumptuous fabrics will harmonize with clean modern lines and are accented with original pieces of Biedermeier and Art Deco furniture. An eclectic mix, but with an overall (albeit restrained) opulence.’ Birgit Israel

Birgit Israel, known for her compelling mix of vintage and antique furniture and also her contemporary furniture, lighting and accessories (most recently the hand-crafted 'Made in Germany' collection, inspired by 1930s designs) is opening a new store this month at 251- 253 Fulham Road, London SW3. 020 7376 7255, www.birgitisrael.com
