‘Lighting is key to creating atmosphere within the home and we are now being asked for minimal use of down-lighters and a softer approach to lighting.  More lamps and wall sconces, just highlighting key features with directional spots and up-lighters. What we are seeing for 2008 is a ‘greener’ approach to living; using less energy and an awareness of organic textiles for furnishing.’

Sources of the month The perfect winter hideaway was created by Ben Whistler on their stand at last year’s Decorex. Their traditional chalet was given a contemporary feel with clean lines and the custom-built furniture for which the company is known. They help interior designers create the perfect piece of furniture or can customise one from their existing range using a special material, finish or inlay. They also pride themselves on their speed of service.

Dutch carpet dealer Karel Weijand has been selling antique and contemporary decorative rugs from his Farnham showroom for over 30 years. He will source carpets and rugs for interior designers and private clients, and also offers a restoration service (including reweaving and reconstruction). The personal service extends to bringing the rugs to your own home so they can be viewed in situ.
