Artist, designer, and horse-rider Jane Knapp has launched two new leather lighting designs inspired by equestrian equipment. The Somerset Leather Collection uses high-quality real leather that is cut and hand-stitched locally in Somerset where the traditions of a leather working industry are still alive.
“Leather is a natural, tactile material that works marvellously well in both contemporary and traditional interiors” says Jane. “To realise these designs I have enjoyed a fascinating collaboration with factories in Street and Minehead”.
“STITCH” boasts a character hide covering with hand-stitched details on a brass or nickel frame and a glass cover top and bottom. Available with dark brown “Havana” leather or antiqued “Dakota” leather. £248 (330mm wide, 100mm high, 125mm projection).
“RING” features an equestrian martingale ring, as used for restraining a lively horse, between two hand-stitched leather straps and a glass cover top and bottom.
Available with dark brown “Havana” leather or antiqued “Dakota” leather on a brass or nickel body. £248 (330mm wide, 100mm high, 125mm projection).
Both designs are fitted with frosted glass to cast a diffused, uniform light and are intended for interior use including stairwells or situations where they would be viewed from above with the glass discreetly covering the light source.
Suitable bulbs are the now easily available bayonet cap, LED lamps that are low temperature, low energy which give remarkably high lumens.
