The new “Samarkand” collection is a stunning addition to the brands’ portfolio of printed archival designs, inspired by ikat and handwoven kilim textiles traditionally found along the ancient Silk Road route. The three beautiful prints - Amisha, Cyrus and Qarshi were sourced from the Crowson Archive and have been rescaled and recoloured into a range of colourways, from understated neutrals to richly coloured & vibrant jewel tones.
The Design Archives is the brainchild of Sharon Crowson whose family business, Crowson Fabrics, established in 1978, became one of the world’s leading producers, designers and suppliers of home furnishings. Sharon has taken on the huge archive of designs curated by her father and created a series of fabric collections, bringing to life some of the archive’s most beautiful designs. There are seven distinctive patterned, and two plain collections, both of which offer a palette of colours from bold and vibrant oranges and yellows through to subtle pastels, in a range of quality linen, wool and cotton base cloths, all of which are produced in the UK. The latest new ’Samarkand” collection has three distinctive designs in complementing colourways. The showroom is based in Lots Road, Chelsea welcomes visitors to browse the collections, alongside their new showroom partners Bennett Silks and curtain pole specialists The Holbein Company.
The Birchgrove collection is the first wallpaper range from The Design Archives and offers a colourful choice of six designs taken from some of the brands most popular original fabric prints, re-interpreted on to paper. It includes chinoiserie-inspired large scale floral blossoms, as well as a co-ordinating plain paper in 10 colourways to offer a comprehensive solution to mixing pattern and block colour. For a textured finish, bespoke paper-backed fabric is another wall covering option the brand specialises in using traditional battening, as it provides an interesting and acoustic friendly interiors option.
