With a qualification from art college, a history of learning the craft of rug weaving, spinning and design and travelling the world, Rachel Simpson went on to perfect the technique of rug and textile restoration. She originally studied in the UK with Persian and western rug dealers, then travelled and studied in Turkey and finally led a team of restorers for six years in India. Rachel believes that the skill of restoration is not only in technical capability but also ensuring the use of the correct technique for each job so nothing is 'over-restored'. There is always a minimum of three ways to tackle the restoration of each carpet and it is important to understand how the item was originally damaged and how traffic and usage will ultimately affect the piece. Please call for opening hours at each location.
