ASK THE EXPERTS
Flooring
I am looking for floral lino for a wash room but have not had any luck.
Sinclair Till can laser cut and inlay linoleum in any pattern, geometric or floral. They have many examples on display in their showroom, plus photographs of floor patterns and borders for inspiration.
I am trying to source brick flooring for my entire downstairs including the kitchen, utility, entrance hall and living room. It will be continued on to an outside patio. It needs to be suitable for use with underfloor heating. Please could you recommend suppliers?
Have you tried the York Handmade Brick Company ? They have a wide range of bricks including cobbles and terracotta pavers which would be suitable for indoors and outside. If you can’t see what you are looking for on their website, do give them a call as they also specialize in bespoke brickwork.
I have a modest Georgian house built in 1750 and am thinking of laying slate slabs in the living room and kitchen, but I don’t like the straight edges. Do you know of anyone who sells slate slabs with an antiqued edge (i.e. uneven or tumbled)?
Have you seen our Outdoor Flooring feature within the Design Topics link on the left-hand side of our home page? We mention that the uneven edge on stone is normally achieved through wear – and is thus a feature of reclaimed stone.
Drummonds www.drummonds-arch.co.uk offer reclaimed stone, when available. You could also search for reclaimed slate on www.salvoweb.com.
You might also try the following companies:
Mandarin Stone www.mandarinstone.com who stock a huge range of slates in riven finishes,
Martin Moore Stone www.martinmoorestone.com, specialists in all types of stone including ‘aged’ varieties, and Paris Ceramics www.parisceramics.com , providers of top quality real and faux stone in all sorts of finishes.
We are looking for a floor paint that can withstand a lot of wear – particularly from office chairs on wheels. Is there anything that will take this sort of abuse?
You don’t mention the type of floor you wish to paint. You could paint concrete or wooden floors with one of the following brands:
Beckers (excellent range of floor paint from Scandinavia) available from specialist decorators’suppliers Ray Munn www.raymunn.com ; The Little Green Paint Company, a low odour and quick drying formulation of polyurethane and oil resins, Little Greene Floor Paint is easy to use and maintain and exceptionally durable www.thelittlegreene.com ; Farrow & Ball (their floor paint is in their own warehouse and can withstand fork-lift trucks) www.farrow-ball.com. Paint & Paper is an excellent source of a wide range of paints from different manufacturers and excellent advice. They arrange delivery throughout the UK and Europe www.paint-paper.co.uk. Unless the paint is tested in a particular environment there is no guarantee, but all the floor paints from the above companies will withstand a lot of wear & tear !
We are looking for a contemporary rug. Where can we see a good selection of styles?
There are many companies offering thousands of rugs in every conceivable style, colour, texture and size; in traditional, tribal, classic and ultra-contemporary designs.
