ASK THE EXPERTS

Events & Organisations

Here are some of the problems we have solved in the Events & Organisations category:

I am searching for wholesalers for my ‘home classics’ company in Sweden, and looking for suppliers for antique and luxury consoles, side tables, porcelain and accessories.

If a company has a ‘trade only’ symbol on its listing on our website, it’s a wholesaler. However, many companies sell to the trade and to retail clients.

We suggest you visit some UK trade shows to help you to track down companies which would be best for your new business.  Shows we would recommend you visit include Top Drawer, Pulse and Decorex. Dates for all of these are listed on thehousedirectory.com .
If you do visit London, we also suggest you browse the showrooms at the Chelsea Harbour Design Centre and the shops along Lots Road. You could also visit the trade showrooms in The Old Imperial Laundry in Battersea.

I have missed the Maison & Objet Fair in Paris and need to find alternative interior design fairs. Could you make any recommendations for UK fairs?

If you click on the Design Diary button on our home page you will find  a link to listings for Interior Design and Garden shows throughout the UK.  You might also want to sign up for our monthly newsletter, as upcoming events which might be of interest to you will also be featured here, under ‘This Month Don’t Miss’.

I’m interested in antique textiles. Are there any fairs that specialise in them?

Textile FairThe Textile Society has been running a successful fair in Manchester for many years, and is launching a new London fair this September (2010).  There will be some 60 stands piled high with textiles and garments from all over the world from 17th century to the 1970s, plus conservators and second-hand booksellers. For more details go to www.textilesociety.org.uk

There are also always several textile dealers at the Decorative Antiques & Textiles Fair, held four times a year. For dates and more information, visit www.decorativefair.com
