Beds & Bedding

Here are some of the problems we have solved in the Beds & Bedding category:

How can I clean a silk duvet?

KCP (Specialist Interior Cleaning & Scotchgarding) specialise in professional cleaning and fabric protection and they undertake everything from a complete after-builders’ clean-up to polishing and maintaining stone floors. They say that your silk duvet should be dry cleaned, which they can help with – or they suggest you find a good dry cleaner locally. (Image: Woods of Harrogate)

I hope you can help me. I’m having difficulty finding a valance that fits a king-size bed with an 18 inch drop. I can find a white one, but I would like one in light pink, beige or pale blue.

Have you tried Bespokebedlinens? They can make valances to your size requirements, in either your own fabric or in a choice of Egyptian cottons or polyester cotton mixes.

My old goose down duvet is getting rather thin. Can anything be done or do I have to throw it out?

austrian bedding companyThe Austrian Bedding Company is the only specialist duvet shop in the UK. They not only make pure goose down quilts and pillows in any size, but have a special cleaning service – the down is removed, de-dusted, washed, dried, and put into a new cotton cover. My son is allergic to dust mites and I’ve been told that a silk duvet might be the answer. Is this right? If so, where can I find one?

Mandarina TextilesSilk-filled duvets are naturally hypo-allergenic and resistant to dust mites, and also repel mould and mildew. They also seem to be very suitable for a British climate as the temperature-regulating properties of silk mean that they keep you warm in winter and cool in summer. www.mandarina.co.uk can make them in any size or weight; What’s more, the Chinese believe that the amino acids in silk emit small particles called sleep factors, which are supposed to ease the nervous system, help you sleep better and improve your sense of well-being !

Can you help me find an old-fashioned feather-filled eiderdown? Does anyone still sell them?

tinsmithsTinsmiths supply three versions: in a green or rose fabric with a ruffle edging, or in a pretty faded floral design with a piped edging. They all have the traditional plain silk-backing. You can have a look at them on www.tinsmiths.co.uk. They also have a shop in Ledbury, Herefordshire.
