Here are some of the problems we have solved in the past:
Q. Where can I get hold of cane to repair my old dining chairs?
A. J.A. Milton Upholstery Supplies has a very comprehensive range of DIY upholstery materials for sale by mail order or online. They stock four sizes of weaving cane for chairs, as well as natural and artificial rush, and useful handbooks. Visit their website www.jamiltonupholstery.co.uk or call them on 0870-7778934

Q. Can you please help me find hessian wallpaper?
A. Architectural Textiles are specialists in natural textured wallcoverings, and supply not only hessian, but silk, bamboo, grasscloth, hemp and arrowroot. They supply the whole of the UK and will be happy to send you samples. www.architecturaltextiles.co.uk. B Brown have been supplying display fabrics since 1943. Their vast range includes hessian in natural tones and colours, and several of them are available paper-backed. www.bbrown.co.uk

Q. We're an interior design company looking for a supplier who can 'antique' mirror a wall in panels... The mirror would not be framed and the supplier would preferably need to bond the mirror to the wall. We're specifically looking for that antiqued 'worn' look. It would be great if you had any suggestions as to who we may call for this.
A. We have two companies you should get in touch with. The Looking Glass of Bath manufacture high quality reproductions of 18th and 19th century mirrors and now also supply mirror glass which replicates the grey foxing of old mercury glass. They also make hand-silvered 'distressed' mirror tiles in any size. www.lookingglassofbath.co.uk. Designers Bevan & Hely-Hutchinson can provide you with antiqued mirror glass as an overmantel or in panels - they have made entire rooms in mirror glass. Look up www.bandhh.com

Q. Can you help me find an old-fashioned feather-filled eiderdown. Does anyone still sell them?
A. Tinsmiths supply three versions: in a green or rose fabric with a ruffle edging, or in a pretty faded floral design with a piped edging. They all have the traditional plain silk-backing and are £295 each. You can have a look at them on www.tinsmiths.co.uk and for mail order call 01531 632083. They also have a shop in Ledbury, Herefordshire.

Q. I am looking for an unusual very large coffee table. What companies could I try?
A. We have no idea what your style is like, but an acrylic or glass table might be a good idea as even a large one wouldn’t look too bulky in the room. Two companies you should look at are: Carew-Jones & Associates, www.carewjones.co.uk (0845-230 2411) who have been supplying high quality furniture in Perspex for over 20 years. They also do custom-made furniture in a range of styles. The Odd Chair Company & Victoria James also have an acrylic and glass coffee table in their collection. It can be made to order in any size.
